Charity for victory: who provides humanitarian and military assistance to Ukraine

Since the beginning of the war, more than 7.8 thousand tons of humanitarian cargo have been delivered by rail alone and 1,670 freight cars with humanitarian aid have been sent, which have been distributed throughout the country. The volume of humanitarian aid to Ukraine from abroad over the last three weeks of March amounted to 148,566 tons. Ukrainian and international charitable foundations and volunteers help both war-affected civilians and military personnel.

In this publication, GORDON has collected information about well-known large funds and organizations that are bringing victory closer with their support. But we know and remember that in Ukraine there are also many small organized groups that do not have a name, they do not have their own websites and pages on social networks. But at the same time, every day they help residents of cities that are under fire, and the military who defend Ukraine.

Ukrainian funds and business

Since the beginning of the war, the Turn Back Alive fund has collected 2.3 billion UAH to help the military. The fund purchases technical equipment for defenders, helmets, thermal imagers, optics, body armor and quadcopters. Detailed reporting appears almost every day on the fund’s page. Among the latest news is the purchase of pickup trucks for Ukrainian soldiers.

The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, together with SCM businesses, has already sent more than UAH 600 million in assistance to Ukraine and Ukrainians. These are mainly food and medicine that people in hot spots need or have been evacuated from.

The foundation donated more than half a million units of medicine to the country’s public clinics – anesthetics, antibiotics, wound treatment products and 63 thousand blood containers for blood donors.

The fund is donating 200 thousand food packages to those in need.

The work of the program “Rinat Akhmetov. Saving Lives – Rehabilitation of Wounded Children”, created for the children of Donbass, was also expanded. Now all Ukrainian children in need of prosthetics can turn to the fund for help.

The project “Overcome. Psychologist Helps” continues its work, which since 2014 has been helping people who survived the trauma of war to receive psychological help.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s Foundation “Vivka Ukraine” provided assistance for more than UAH 18 million. Among the main expenses are food and essential items for the affected regions and ammunition for the defenders of Ukraine. In addition, the fund made monetary contributions: 4.05 million UAH for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 4.43 million UAH – assistance to hospitals through the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, 2.36 million UAH – material assistance to the victims.

The MHP agricultural holding donates up to 330 tons of chicken to charity every day. Chicken becomes lunch for defenders and rescuers, doctors, and those in need. Among the cities where products are sent are Kyiv, Kharkov, Mariupol.

The company reports that it has already donated 8,300 tons of products (UAH 470 million in hryvnia equivalent) for these purposes.

The charitable foundation “Renaissance of the Region” of businessman Viktor Pinchuk collected and allocated 6 million UAH for medical needs and assistance to the military. On the foundation’s website you can view in detail the receipts to charitable accounts and expenses.

Andrey Stavnitser, together with a group of businessmen, created the Help Ukraine Foundation. They collect charitable assistance for Ukraine from foreigners. It is used to purchase humanitarian aid and medicines. The Alexey Stavnitser Foundation also purchases body armor and helmets for terrorist defense.

The K.FUND Foundation of Vasily Khmelnitsky is launching a humanitarian direction to combat the devastating consequences of military aggression from Russia. The fund will collect funds from foreign partners, donors and organizations, order essential goods abroad and supply them to Ukraine. First of all, these are medicines and medical equipment, specialized food products for humanitarian disaster zones, elements of mobile energy infrastructure, and specialized transport.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Sergei Pritula’s charitable foundation has purchased more than UAH 200 million in aid for the military. Sergei Pritula is raising funds for his charitable foundation; you can also make a contribution in cryptocurrency. The presenter’s office functions as a coordination hub. This is where purchasing and logistics are managed.

Businessman Alexander Yaroslavsky announced that he would initiate the collection of funds for the restoration of Kharkov among Ukrainian and world businessmen. Yaroslavsky assures that he and other businessmen are able to raise $1 billion. Under the auspices of the Yaroslavsky DCH management company, a program of international support for Kharkov will be launched.

The BGV company of Gennady Butkevich, together with partners, delivered 84 trucks of humanitarian aid to Ukraine. These are 37 trucks with humanitarian cargo with a total weight of 740 tons for Ukrainians from war-affected regions: here are medicines, drinking water, baby food. In addition, BGV Group Management has already allocated almost UAH 1.8 million for the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to Ukraine from foreign partners.

International organizations and charitable foundations

Not all international organizations provide reports and open information on the amount of humanitarian assistance or monetary costs for it, limiting themselves to general formulations.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has provided $1.7 billion to resolve the refugee migration crisis resulting from the Russian-Ukrainian war, of which $1.1 billion is earmarked for humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. Additionally, the UN plans to allocate another $1.5 billion for this purpose.

UNICEF is helping hospitals. Thus, a children’s hospital in Lviv received 62 tons of medicines and early development kits. And 10 tons of cargo for the Nikolaev region contain medicines, obstetric kits, medical devices and consumables, each of which is designed for 1000 people for three months.

The Caritas Charitable Foundation sends assistance to Ukraine from different countries where it has representative offices. The President of the Ukrainian charitable organization Caritas Ukraine, Tatyana Stavnicha, said that the expected budget for responding to the crisis associated with the war will be more than €10 million. Caritas has already received and donated more than 520 tons of assistance from partners and philanthropists, most of which were aimed at central, eastern and southern directions provide assistance to about 70 thousand people.

Caritas in Ukraine manages and distributes humanitarian aid from other countries. Helps Ukrainians who have lost their homes and have basic needs: obtaining shelter, necessary things, food.

The international Christian and charitable organization “The Salvation Army” helps Ukrainians who have left the country. For example, in Moldova, the Salvation Army provides refugees with free temporary housing and basic necessities. In border cities such as Lviv, internally displaced persons are provided with food and hygiene kits.

The International Medical Corps has created a logistics center in Poland and teams in Moldova and Romania to provide emergency assistance to Ukrainians leaving the country. Psychologists also work at help centers, and people can get the necessary medications.
