VERY IMPORTANT NOTE! These microfilms of the certificates are held at the New York State Archives in Albany, NY. They can be ordered through Inter-Library Loan. You will need to have your local library order them for you. (The contact person in the archives microfilm department is Bill Gorman who can be reached at (518) 474-8955 or by e-mail at bgorman@mail.nysed.gov ) Most libraries where you can order through Inter-Library Loan will require that the films remain in the receiving library. (In other words, you won't be able to take the films out of the library to work with them at home.)

6/19/2000 Because of the budget constraints since September 11th and because of the logistical problems involved with the major renovations of the state archives facilities in Albany ... it is currently not feasible to have copies of the films made for purchase. |

Within the NYS Archives they are referred to (titled) as … Series A1978: CENSUS OF INMATES IN ALMSHOUSES AND POORHOUSES 1875-1920 (Don't be confused by the title; these documents have absolutely nothing to do with the familiar federal or state Census. Here they are apparently using the word "census" in the generic – dictionary – merely any list or enumeration.) So….your specific film request will need to state BOTH the Series Title and the specific microfilm roll number(s). |
