is the first instance I have ever heard of involving blacks who were slaves
being found in a poorhouse census. Really has very significant
sociological/legal implications. Since the slaves were the property
of their owners, it would seem that the owners should
have been responsible for their support. There is an important historical
story here -- and I hope we can learn it and share it!
