County Historical Society (p. 113) lists the occupants of
the Carroll County Poorhouse in 1860. James G. Townsend,
(49) manager and his family, Mary (43), Josephus R. (20), Mary
A. (17), John W. (14), Henry C. (12) James M. (10), William L.
(7), Alexander P. (4), Thomas J. (1). The inmates: Elizabeth
Burns (64), Mary Fidler (37), Emily Fidler (6), Paralee Fidler
(4), Nancy C. (1); Martha Portess (39), Elizabeth Portess
(3).Mahala Forister (26), Cythnia L. (2); Joseph Chandler
(12), Sandy Chandler (32); Nancy Jenkins (35), James Jenkins
(4); Sarah Hall (77). The Mary Fidler is my husband's great great
grandmother."
