"NEW SUMMIT COUNTY HOME
(INFIRMARY) CEMETERY:
Located on the east side of Darrow Rd (Rt
91) between Northmoreland Ave
and South River Rd. The County Home, or Infirmary, opened in 1921,
was closed in 1970, and demolished in 1980. (The Summit Nursing
Home is now on this site.) There is a cemetery on site for persons
who died at the County Home between 1916-1948 but there are no
gravestones. Burials were published in the Chapter book: "SummitCounty
Ohio Infirmary Burial & Miscellaneous Records 1916-1952" An
older cemetery, located closer to Howe Rd and Weaver School, was filled and fenced in by the Summit
County Agricultural Society"
"OLD SUMMIT COUNTY HOME
(INFIRMARY) CEMETERY:
The old Summit County Home, or
Infirmary, was located on W Exchange St
at Storer Ave in west Akron until 1916. It was sold and the money
used to build the New County Home in Tallmadge Township. There
are reports that a cemetery was on the property and the bodies
were moved to the new location."
