OHIO POORHOUSE HISTORY by county

PERSONAL NOTES FROM READERS:

"On Jan. 4, 2002 I traveled to Chillicothe, Oh (Ross Co) to locate the local poorhouse or county home. Unable to find the county home we went to the Ross Co Genealogical Society in Chillicothe to inquire if they knew where it was located. The lady there stated the building had been torn down in the 1940's and the records were burned, she also checked with someone in the Historical Society for Ross Co to make sure she was correct and the lady confirmed her statement."

During the 1930's and 1940's the Work Projects Administration (WPA) began the process of inventorying County Archives of Ohio. Those which inventoried infirmary records have been transcribed and links are here posted on a table.
