We have found so many infirmary/poorhouse records for Ohio that we have created a special page for the references -- which will be found in a table alphabetized by county.
(WPA) INVENTORIES OF THE COUNTY ARCHIVES OF OHIO --
EXCERPTS RELATED TO POORHOUSE (INFIRMARY) HOLDINGS

During the 1930's and 1940's the Work Projects Administration (WPA) began the process of inventorying County Archives of Ohio. Those which inventoried infirmary records have been transcribed and links are here posted on a table

CEMETERIES:

"I live in Mahoning County Ohio in Canfield in a new subdivision on the land that was once the Mahoning County Infirmary. When I was younger it stood abandoned and we knew it as "the old folks home". The building is long gone but the cemetery is a few hundred feet from my house in what looks to be just another lot awaiting a new house. It is a wooded lot, same as the rest were around here but there are several grave markers (looks like a tube was filled with cement and a number was pressed into the top) hidden within the lot. I became interested in all of this once I saw the markers for myself as I think very few if any around here knew of a cemetery. The subdivision was temporarily halted a few years ago when the graves were discovered but it looks like progress will continue until there is a house on every lot except for one."
